Kyle Barns has had a series of misfortunes in his life; his mother would beat him as a child and he was accused of attacking his own daughter. After attending an exorcism in his native town, he is convinced his mother and his wife were possessed and he was not the source of them going bad. He therefore teams up with Reverend Anderson to try and save people that are possessed by demons while putting up with the residents of his town who think he's bad news and would deserve to be in jail.
Fox International Studios and Robert Kirkman developed the television show before the comic book was published. Cinemax picked up the US rights for the project after the script was done. The show is produced by Fox International Studios for Cinemax in the US and Fox international channels out side of the US.
Robert Kirkman’s Skybound is also a producer on the show. Ten episodes were announced to be produced with lead cast Patrick Fugit as Kyle Barnes and Philip Glenister as Reverend Anderson for the television series along with Gabriel Bateman, while Adam Wingard was hired to direct the pilot produced by Fox International Channels. More cast was announced including David Denman as Mark Holter, Melinda McGraw as Patricia MacCready, Grace Zabriskie as Mildred, Catherine Dent as Janet Anderson, Lee Tergesen as Blake Morrow, and Brent Spiner.
